Having installed Windows 7 a few times, I thought was an easy task. I have Windows 7 on both a flash drive and a disk. My friend bought a Dell laptop which has only Ubuntu on it, but when I try to boot using F12 Ubuntu just loads and nothing happens.
It's the genuine 30 day trial, I'm trying to install, but seems I'm doing something wrong and I have zero knowledge of Ubuntu.
Every tutorial I've looked at covers Ubuntu/Windows 7 installed together.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

If you are trying to install Win 7 from a DVD you need either to reset the BIOS to boot first from DVD or preferably find the function key that enables you to choose which device to boot from this time. On most computers that key is F8 and you start tapping it as soon as you power on. Resetting the BIOS boot order varies according to make so if you are still having difficulty I'm sure someone familiar with Dell will jump in and help.

On the Dell laptop, when the POST screen appears, press F2 to enter Setup. Go down to Boot Sequence in the left and change the boot order on the right so that the optical drive is first. Insert the Windows DVD, save settings and exit. When the computer restarts, you should get "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD...".

Thanks, I'm almost there. But at the 'where to install' I don't have NTFS, do I have to come back out and create a partition. If so, how do I do that on Ubuntu.

Can I change it to NTFS, whilst I'm in the install option?

Yes, you can reformat the drive before you actually start the install. Can't recollect the wording but there are options at the bottom of the screen.
