    Good Day All-

    Probably a simple answer, but...

I'm trying to rename a system boot hard drive on my PC running Server 2003. Is there an easy way to boot in DOS and rename the Drive from F to C?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know that in windows xp you can change the letter in one of the settings but can't remember where it is, but not sure if this is the case on 2003...

In Xp you can do it in Admin Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management. But you cannot change a boot volume. Here is what Ms says .. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307844
I hope it helps in 2k3.

Thanks foogoo for that M$ link. Another reason to move up to XP. :D I have wondered for a while, if the swopping drive feature :p had been solved in XP.

In my W98SE laptop I have a fixed C; drive, a removable bay where a floppy drive can be fitted in place of my CD/DVD drive, and another removable bay, where a second hard drive can be fitted.

My swoppable DVD/CD drive bay is named "Z", with last drive=Z, to overcome swop naming problems.

    With 2 x Hdd fitted I have a C:, D:, E: and Z: drives that register.

When I take out my removable HDD (leave it empty), and fit a floppy drive in place of my CD/DVD drive, my E: drive ( a partition on C: drive ) becomes a D: drive and A: drive appears (for the floppy). "Z" and "E" have gone.

Confuses some programs, and me sometimes. I now have A:, C:, and D: The changing of "E" to "D" depending on what configuration I use, can cause problems. Probably confuses MG readers as well.:D

Finally it looks like M$ have solved this Windows problem, that has been around for years. Bazza
