Hi... Vista Home Premium, Win7, HP Pavilion laptop
I'm looking for a free file renaming utility. Something that can rename groups of files. I know they're out there. Just haven't needed one till now.
    Thanks for any ideas.

I use this one: http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php I think this should be taken into consideration to be on Major Geeks, I've tired a lot of renamers and this one is very powerful. I use version 2.7.0.3 compared to the newest 2.7.1.2, as the newest has the typical 'toolbar' which can be opted out of but offers no new features I need.

*No affiliation, just a happy user.

After looking at the screenshots of ReNamer on it's homepage it is very similar, only difference I can see is all the options in bulk reanme utility are on a single page. Either one should do what you need.

A useful tool for renaming PICTURE files (bulk) is Irfanview. When you install Irfanview, you get that program, and what's called Irfanview Thumbnails, which you can use to batch edit, rename, resize, etc. pictures. I love that program, and it's of course freeware.

I use it too, but didn't know that was part of the program. I'll definitely look into that. Thanks. RD

I spoke to soon, when I went to bulkrenameutility website I noticed it had just been updated. No more toolbar, which to me is a step in the right direction. Seems like all freeware is offering them now, I fully understand why, money. Have to have it to live and many freeware utilities are made by individuals on there free time.

I even started a thread asking for suggestions in Software forum and sticky. I often come here asking for help for top freeware picks, etc. You might see more of that coming up because I am only one person.

We are trying to upgrade Majorgeeks finally. You might have noticed a new font, longer short descriptions and many new listings. New graphics are coming, new back end and some design tweaks as well as sub categories and hopefully an expanded driver section. It's been years in the making and we are way behind but then again, Majorgeeks isnt your average website, change should be slow and minimal here. Otherwise, it just gets cluttered.

I completely missed the sticky... I know this a lot of work and I for one and I know I'm not alone fully appreciate it!! Please keep my other idea from a while ago http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=206040 in mind. As Halo said in the other thread I know it would be way more work and all. Just something I would like to see but can totally live without. This place is already far ahead of all the other download sites.
