My motherboard crapped out about a month ago, and I've just now gathered the parts to rebuild and upgrade my computer. I know I can't just boot into Windows XP, as it will have a cow over the new mobo. So, I plan to run a repair install so that most, if not all, hardware problems will be taken care of (I really don't want to wipe my hard drive). The computer currently has XP Pro installed, and I have an XP Home install disk and an XP Pro upgrade disk. Can I run a repair install from the XP Pro Upgrade disk, or do I have to run it from the XP Home install disk, and then upgrade to XP Pro? Thanks.

You should be able to use the xp pro upgrade disk. Since, technically, you are not now using XP HOME.

A little late, however if before the new install you change the IDE controller to a standard controller the blue screen should not occur.
Supposedly and I have had trouble with this, in safe mode delete the ide controller. A little hard to do after the fact but....

Everyone running Win 2XXX and XPXX are going to have this issue at some point to deal with... Beame up Scotty!!!

    Merry Christmas
