    Hi Geeks!

    I had the Google re-direct problem and used the tools as described in the Read and Run Me First Guide. They worked after the first pass and the various programs eliminated the SkyNetxxx.dlls, the Trojan-Spy.Zbot.YETH, and the Rootkit.TDSS trojan.

    This process however, has caused a new issue on my PC. It appears that autoexec.bat programs are either blocked or somehow de-activated. My Brother P-Touch label maker used to launch software whenever it was turned on. Now I hear the USB connecting sound, a flash of the cursor, but no software appears. The same problem is occurring with CDs and DVDs not auto starting. My camera memory card downloading application will not launch when the card is inserted in the reader. They were all working fine before the trojan removal process

    I have enabled PNP in the BIOS and tried the Microsoft tech bulletin registry fix for CD drives not starting, with no luck.

    I am still running Spybot S&D, AVG8Free and PC Tools Spyware Doctor.

    Any suggestions besides a re-load of XP?

    Also, I keep getting a message that my recycle bin is corrupted (although that appeared before the trojan removal.)

    Where or how did you remove the malware? We have no idea as to what was removed, good or bad. Is the only issue you have with auto starting? I can only assume that during whatever was done in the malware removal process, auto starts was disabled. Do the items run if you open them?

    I ran the removal programs exactly as specified in the Windows XP cleaning procedure. I saved the logs if that gives you the information you need and have attached them.

    All the programs run normally from the START menu or by locating them in Explorer and clicking on the .exe program file.

    Thanks for your help!

    You didnt attach any logs.

    In the meantime, Go to Start / Run type:
    msconfig
    Select Startup and see if there's any entry with Autoruns.
    Uncheck if no.

    There was one entry with a /autorun flag, for Google Search Bob. There are 25 other startup items that don't have an autorun flag. I disabled the Google item, no change to the problem.

    I will try to attach the logs again.

    You still have traces of the malware on your system. Let's do this:

    Please make sure msconfig is set to normal startup.

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\ib2
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\ib3
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\ib4
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\ib5
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\ib6

    DirLook::
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\12768904
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\92778896

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_BEEP\xx_SKYNETdyvbbgbv_xx]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\SKYNETdyvbbgbv]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\SKYNETdyvbbgbv\main]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\SKYNETdyvbbgbv\main\delete]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\SKYNETdyvbbgbv\main\injector]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\SKYNETdyvbbgbv\main\tasks]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\SKYNETdyvbbgbv\modules]

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    :)Here are the new logs.

    I have one other strange thing going on. I use DU meter from time to time to see how fast my uploads are going. Normally there is no activity unless I am browsing or uploading images to a website. Recently there has been constant low level activity. .1 to .2kB.sec bursts about once a second. Is there a way to identify what is causing the activity? I thought it was the APC UPS server software but I uninstalled it and the activity remained.

    :)Thanks, desperatedave

    I would suggest that you install a firewall on your system!

    Use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Local Settings\temp\libsqlitejdbc-2249897374800129886.lib
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Local Settings\temp\pdk-Dave-1484
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Local Settings\temp\pdk-Dave-3108
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Local Settings\temp\swt-gdip-win32-3448.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Local Settings\temp\swt-win32-3448.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Local Settings\temp\WindowsAPI.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Local Settings\temp\WindowsZFSJNI.dll

    If you can not manually remove them:
    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.

    Hi Tim,

    The files on C: were not allowed to be deleted so I ran the combofix program as requested. The logs are attached. All of the files you listed have re-appeared with today's date, 8-10 where they previously showed 8-08.

    The autorun is still disabled.

    You mentioned installing a firewall. The Windows firewall is currently running so I am assuming you want a second party application. I used to use Zone Alarm but it seemed to slow things down and conflict with the Windows firewall. We have a Comcast modem and LinkSys router that supposedly are firewalled. Do you have a recommendation for a firewall and advice on how to configure it?

    SpyBot Search and Destroy is scanning daily and keeps fixing the RightMedia ad.yield.com cookie but it re-appears every day.:)

    PCTools Firewall....without ThreatFire. I will look at your logs when I next can.
