I can currently only run my lap top in safemode. I have am operating windows 7. As soon as I type my password in to start up windows, sometimes its only seconds before the screen goes blue and it restarts, and will continue doing so. I have no problems in safe mode. I have avg and avast antivirus, I have restored, still same problem, although I can only go back a few weeks. The problem started long before that and has progressivly gotten worse. PLEASE HELP. :cry

Greetings, saerbo, and welcome to MajorGeeks.

The fact that your machine is crashing in Safe Mode does seem to indicate that this is a hardware problem, but I think we need to rule out any Windows issues first.

Couple of quick questions: what happens if you don't log in but rest at the log in page - does the machine still crash? And when you mentioned "the screen goes blue" is it a Stop Error page with information (the Blue Screen of Death) or is it just a blank blue screen?

You need to run only one real-time antivirus solution. Many problems with symptoms such as yours can occur when two protection programs butt heads.

Also, please provide your Windows architecture (32-bit or 64-bit), Windows 7 Service Pack level, and the make & model number of your machine (please include any Service Tag identifiers).

ok I'm going to remove avast right now....and when I leave it run at the log in window, no it doesn't crash. It is blue screen with an error (not sure which) but it dumps memory. ?? and it is a Dell Inspirion 1545 x64-based PC.

    Good morning.

Please post your Dell Service Tag identifier.

Also, since you are indeed seeing the Stop Error screen we may be able to discern what is causing the problem. Please do the following:

    1. Navigate to Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Advanced > Startup and Recovery settings.
Make sure 'Automatically restart' is not checked, and 'Write debugging information' is set for 'Small memory dump'. Ok out and reboot your machine.

    2. After the next machine crash, navigate to the C: > Windows > Minidumps folder, copy those files to the Desktop, zip and upload them as an attachment.

A quick tutorial for that process is located here.

One more thought: when's the last time you gave your machine a good cleaning, both file-wise and hardware-wise? Software cleaning can be accomplished by running the free program CCleaner (just run the 'Cleaner' routine for now). Hardware-wise make sure all fans are free and clear and are running correctly, all connections are secure, no obvious dust buildup on critical components, etc.

Ok I will do all of the above. Andthe lasttime I cleaned my computer....as well as I KNOW HOW to clean my computer, was right after all of this started. It wasn't as bad or frequent when it first started and I thought i had a virus. SO i of course run virus scan, then defrag, and free disc space...I'm sure there is much more I could have "cleaned"

I am having trouble uploading the zip file onto here, could it be that I use WinRAR??

    Good morning.

Be patient - there are MGs who are very good at reading memory dumps and will most likely jump onboard shortly.

    Meanwhile, a couple of quickies:

    1. Please perform a search for the file WudfPf.sys (you might have to unhide hidden system files and folders). BlueScreenView shows that that file caused a kernel crash - let us know where it's located and it's size.

    2. Please post your Dell Service Tag identifier.

Grab a screenshot/photo of any Bluescreen you're now getting or the 0x???????? details.

Not likely to be WudfPf.sys since it's a MS/Windows driver, 2x AVs active (one denying the other access to a file that's currently being loaded/checked, perhaps) is more likely.

Ensure you have removed all of the redundant AV (use ASWClear) then carefully read and use this method to collect further data, including all dumps, etc., for us to work through. If the resulting zipped folder is greater than 2MB, you'll need to split the contents into 2x zips to attach it here.

Of course, if multiple active AVs were the cause, this crash won't happen once you've resolved that issue.
