Repeating Internet Connection Failure

For some unknown reason, my internet keeps going out, from 5 minutes to an hour after I turn on my computer. Resetting the computer will fix the internet connection until it goes out again. Windows, however, still believes the internet is connected when this happens, and trying to repair the internet connection results the following message:

"Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed:
    Renewing your IP address

For assistance, contatct the person who manages your network."

I know the problem is most likely to be my computer and not the IP, however, as my roommates are not suffering from a loss of internet. If I disable the connection and then try to re-enable it, I cannot re-enable without being forced to reset my computer. I have noticed that when the connection fails, I usually have a very high number of "sent packets" compared to "recieved packets" - on the order of trillions to thousands (see attachment).

I have a Dell Latitude D810 laptop with Windows XP. I have no yellow question-mark devices in my device manager now, though until recently I had a PCI device that was marked with a yellow question-mark that is now fixed. I have recently have had Windos XP reformatted and had the RAM replaced.

This problem does not appear to affect my wireless connection - I cannot test the wireless connection as I cannot get a good enough signal to connect to a wireless network in the first place.

I would appreciate any help possible in solving this problem.

    Hello Sakuto

Can you please post a "ipconfig /all"?

Also did you try to power cycle your router/modem?

Please post your ipconfig /all in here so we can get a little bit more info.
    Thanks,

    Techsent:
I have verified that the wireless connection does still work.

    Elder_Usr:
I do not have router or modem except whatever came built in my laptop, so I am unsure as to how I would power cycle it.
