Replace Pavilion zx5060 with faster 108 card???

Hi, I wish to replace my internal 54 mb mini pci wireless card with a faster 108 mb one, however when I asked hp support what specs I need, they claimed I cannot, I can only use a faster external adapter type. Anyone one know if theres a way around this? Will my bios not support another card?

 

First you should take into consideration that the 108Mb/sec . would improve LAN transfer but would not make a difference in Internet surfing.

Second you should take into consideration that the 108 Mb/sec. mode in the Wireless Cards that support it is a propriety Mode.

E.g. If you install a D-Link SuperG (108) card you need a D-Link Compatible Wireless source.

So if you want to improve your own LAN transfer and have a 108Mb/sec. Wireless source you have to find a card that is made by the same brand.

Otherwise 108 is Not a mode that is usually supported by public Wireless and you are wasting your money.

 

yes, I've already taken that into consideration. However I still haven't confirmed if I can even install one in this pavilion

 

I have not found any manyfacturer of mini PCI wireless cards that have speeds above the 54 Mbs 802.11g.

cat5e already pointed out that the 108 Mbs is propritery and one of those specific manufacturers would have to make the mini PCI card for you laptop.

Certainly seems like a possibility. I guess you could go to the Atheros site and see what access points or routers they qualified the product with.

 

I wonder if HP says I can't do it cuz of the bios incompatability or something.
