Replace USB Port?

The USB port on my HP Deskjet 3650 is damaged...kids knocked it off the desk, but the cord kept it from hitting the floor...one of the 4 contacts was broken off, as well as the plastic "thingy" that sits in the center of the contacts. Is it possible to replace this (and where would I get it), or am I better off buying a new printer? I'm a chronic do-it-yourself-er, but would like to know if it's possible before I spend lots of time taking it apart & chasing down the kids when they steal the parts I've set aside!

BTW, I've been lurking here for a long time & have always found what I've needed within the forum...y'all really do rock!

Yes, you can get PCB mounted ports for replacement. They should have standard pinouts but the operative word is SHOULD. Places like: allelectronics.com, ActionElectronics.com or bgmicro.com would likely have them. But you'd have to open up the printer to see exactly what's there (could be a custom part as equipment makers can afford to do that if it facilitates manufacturing - don't want to buy a useless part.

Are you saying that the cable is damaged? Or the printer? If it's the cable that's damaged, you could just buy a new one. If the cable is attached to the printer, you could buy a USB cable and cut the ends off. Then just match up the colors in the cable. It's really pretty easy to do.
