Replacing AVG with McAfee?

I have the option since moving ISP to get McAfee Internet Security Suite free for one year :)
I would like to take up this offer, but I have got AVG Free c/w 3 trojans in the virus vault and I don't want to just uninstall as I am worried what will become of these nasties?
Also I have got Comodo BOClean 4.25 running in the background. Would these have to go too? And A-squared free? And zonealarm?

    I have a desktop running XP SP2.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi Grumbles,
nice to see you in the Malware Forum :)

I think you will find that the security suites are serious resource hogs and don't work better than the combination that you already have. I'm like you, though, in that the offer of something bigger and better for free is hard to pass up. AVG free can be removed via add/remove programs and I believe it asks you during the uninstall what to do with different things like the quarantine and settings, if they should be deleted or stored. If you decide for the security suite, you won't need Zone Alarm anymore and A-Squared will be overkill and McAfee will have it's own antispyware software so you can get rid of Comodo also. I can only tell you that the combination you have now is a good one and unless you have a super heavy duty computer that can handle the resources for the security suites, it might not be that wise to change everything. If you want some other opinions, I can ask one of the others to add their comments to mine. Oh, and it is always useful to keep Spyware Blaster and Spybot's immunization features active.

That is useful advice Abri thanks. Maybe another thread is required for the removal of quarantined items?
I shall have a think about what you say, nice of you to mention that the combination of AVG,Comodo,A-squared,Zonealarm is a good one :) All suggested by the Geeks here ;)

    Thanks

    Hi Grumbles,
I don't have as good an answer for you as I'd like. This is what I can post to you:
What I might add, is that I've not seen anyone's computer become reinfected because they uninstalled their antivirus program. I think even if these are left behind, which is certainly the case for Norton, they don't get out of the quarantine folder.

    I hope this helps.
