I purchased this computer on the cheap after the hard drive crashed. Thought maybe I could revive it by replacing the hard drive with a 500gb or a 1tb drive and I added 8gb of memory instead of the original 4. But....I can't find any recovey disks and the original owner didn't create any.

I did go to the HP website and started downloading all of the drivers that I saw but still a little confused as to how to get the computer to boot so that I can load these onto the replaced hard drive. Also Windows 7 is no more so what do I do in that case. I'm a newbie so any help is truly appreciated. Thank you for your time and patience.

Since Microsoft's official "mainstream" support for Windows 7 ended over 4 years ago, as seen by the Window Lifecycle Fact Sheet and all support ends this coming January, I recommend you buy a Windows 10 64-bit License. Alternatively, you can install one of the many free versions of Linux.

Unfortunately, the OP has an HP. MS will state that they key is not accepted and will not allow the ISO to be downloaded.

The only way to obtain an ISO is to use this tool on the MajorGeeks site
    https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/microsoft_windows_iso_download_tool.html
You have to download and run this exe then you get a list of ISOs you can download.

Probably downloading and burning an ISO, if no other computers are available to you would be too hard.

Best bet buy a computer with Win 10 and learn how to make images.

Or, just try to use your W7 key to get a free edition of Windows 10. Do a clean install, and see if it works. What have you got to lose?

Just upgraded an old friend's Asus using the manufacturer key. Just sayin...
