I'm running windows xp-32, going to replace mobo AND cpu...what's the best way to ensure a smooth transition to system stabillity? Do i have to reinstall windows XP? Does it make sense to upgrade to Vista?
    THANKS!

Unless the new mobo is the EXACT same make/model as the previous model, then you'll have to reload Windows XP. You can perform a safe repair install without any data loss by following the steps in this guide. You can upgrade to Vista if you want, but with the new Windows7 coming out in October, going to Vista seems pointless.

Hello and welcome to MG Support,

Like mentioned by dlb do a repair install, this will restore everything without losing any of your files, after that you could upgrade to Windows 7 RC1 or stick to XP!

I may be mistaken but i don't think you can upgrade from XP to windows 7 only from Vista.
Then again i have been wrong before.

you can just install new drivers at worst you can do a repair install and keep all your data but a repair should not be nessary as just installing drivers should do the trick

Great...thanks for all the input. I think I'll try a repair install first...if not, a full install should work.
