Windows 7 came with Lenovo G555 I bought 3 months ago. I hate it. Can I replace Windows 7 with XP? Anything out of the norm necessary to do so?

    Thanks, Mike

Moved your thread out of malware removal and into somewhere more appropriate. ;)

Besides paying for XP, and since it's a laptop you might want to see if there are XP drivers available from Lenovo first. Hardware makers are not bothering to code their stuff with XP in mind, costs too much money for a dying OS, no matter how good it was.

Just an observation, people were really peeved off at Vista and perhaps rightly so but W7 is now Vista as it should have been IMHO. A very low learning curve. I hope you find the drivers.:)

Can you comment on specific reasons you hate Win 7? I'm perplexed by anyone who would want to go back to Win XP from Win 7.

Yes you can, HOWEVER be issue is drivers as most of the new OEM PCs like your laptopn may only have specific drivers written for them for the likes of Vista or Windows 7, while you can fudge a few drivers to work with XP for the hardware and the main issues are Audio, GPU and LAN, plus any laptop specific hardware like media keys or a webcam, in the main is a nightmare to find such drivers to work,

I have helped folk a number of times with such requests and its a 50/50 thing to finding all drivers to finding some and then to finding none, so they may end up with no audio, no media key fuctions etc

This is not Windows fault, but the driver and hardware companies that choose to move forward and not back.

But in your case you do have XP drivers the big issue as mentioned is the lack of a floppy drive to install the SATA driver from during the install process of XP, then you will need SP3 or the UAA drivers to make your audio work properly.

May have to slipstream the SATA driver using the likes of nLite and guides HERE

I will say that I agree with others Windows 7 is superb and blows XP out of the water in all respects, btu if you dont like then you dont like, but it will be far more stable and robust than XP ever will be, menus are not really diffrent and its more compatible with new hardware etc.

You'd do better listing the problems you have with Win 7 and letting the MajorGeeks tweak it so it runs better.
