    Hello!

I need some good trusted advice, so this is my first stop. :major

My neighbor's Rottweiler ate my power cord/battery charger for my Dell Inspiron 1750. Literally - ate it.

I have read conflicting reports regarding whether or not it is best practice to order from the manufacturer or if something like this: http://www.targus.com/us/productdetail.aspx?regionId=7&sku=APM69US would be just as good if not better than OEM.

It also came up in a Dell forum that these replacements will provide power to the pc but will not charge the battery...?

Major advice/experience would be so appreciated. I can't work without it. My neighbor is replacing it - that's the good news. :)

I generally stick with OEM parts because you never know what you're getting otherwise.

As long as the watts match Perfectly (you do not want it too high because it will slowly cook your laptop, too low and it will work but will have a problem charging the battery) and the amps can be the same or higher, any universal power supply for a laptop will work. You also have to be sure you get the same tip. You do not want the tip too lose nor do you won't it too tight that you have to force it.

Find out by looking at Dell for replacement parts exactly what the wattage, amperage and size of the tip is and you can shop anywhere.

That seems to be the popular notion, plodr. I was hoping for a different answer
It's unfortunate. I like to buy things in person as well as online, and waiting around for something that I need now to show is isn't my specialty.

    Hallelujah, plodr!

The OEM is 90W, and the Targus below is 90W too, so I'm off to MC!!!

    Shew.

Issue resolved. 90 Watts for 90 Watt specification working well so far.

    Thanks!!!

I've had a Targus power brick for almost 3 years now and it still works fine.
