Sorry to repost, but had no replies tot he original.......

The other day, I tried to burn some music to CD so that my wife could use it for one of her school lessons. It's been some time since I tried to do this as it's mostly been mp3 players and iphones of late, but the last time I burned a CD there were no problems at all.

This time, no matter what software I used (itunes or Nero), it just wouldn't work.

The failure produced a fail log, which I have copied and pasted below. If you can understand this, maybe you'll see what is causing this issue? It's the latest in a long line of problems with this computer, and I may soon be forced to take it into the back garden and shoot it!

    Any ideas?......

    Many thanks in advance

    Greetings, Scooter McGraw.

That looks like Greek to me. ;)

Don't know what you've tried already, so here are a few quick suggestions:

Try different media (always a good idea).

Try a different burning software (I realize you've used Nero and iTunes, but humor me and try any native Windows burning protocols - if nothing else, if it fails we've got more info).

Try a slower burn speed (if I'm reading the Greek correctly, looks like you're trying to burn at 40X, which may be way too fast).

Try this this MS Fix (there are also other MS Fixes available if you browse the MS Solution Centers).

I'm sure the MG gurus will jump in with more tips and tricks, so hang in there.

    Hi

Thanks for your help, but the MS Fix doesn't work. It keeps telling me it experiences and error downloading a file and I must try later. Well, I've tried a few times now but it still won't work. Does it say the same thing for you/everyone, or is it just my computer not accepting it?

    Cheers

Basically, that fix is an automated script to clean your upper and lower filters in the Registry.
If you're having trouble running it online, the manual steps for doing so are located in the MS KB article #982116.

    Hi

Uninstall any CD/DVD burning software you have, then run themanual fix of the upper/lower filters as Caliban posted then, run CCleaner and its cleaner and then registry clean (run the registry one until nothing shows for removal) then reboot and re-install your CD/DVD burning app.

If not work then delete your CD drive from Device Manager and reboot, also tell us if you have any Yellow ! marks in Device Manager?

You didn't mention the age of your system but CD+DVD burners do die, usually laser gives out (or isn't strong enough any more) or the tray mech doesn't function right.
So it is possible burner has died. Is there another computer available to you that you could try it in?

    Sam
