hi folks. So, I bought a new HP 17" laptop for my wife. After trying it, she didn't like it because she had difficulty seeing the keys and buttons in dim light. I wasn't able to get a laptop with backlit keyboard, so gambled that the silver keys would be ok, but, in fact they are worse. So, I plan to return it to the store, but want to remove any personal data or info. I watched a number of videos on how to do a factory reset using the HP resetter rather than the MS one. My understanding is the MS one will wipe the drive and reinstall windows, while the HP will re-load the original from the factory install. The one thing missing from all the videos, is the need for a recovery key. I was able to finally get a recovery key, but it didn't work. Several tries all yielded the same result. I really don't want to return it with any personal info. At the point now of trying the windows version and not worrying about the results. Am I correct in assuming the entire original install is on the recovery partition and can be loaded from that? Allso, will the cloud option do the same? Thanks for any thoughts or ideas.

Went to the HP site, and their instructions were using the windows version found under settings. It did not require a recovery key, and is now in process.
