Really hope someone can help me out.

I'm having big issues with Chrome not loading web pages, and instead showing a "Resolving host" message at the bottom of Chrome. It will then eventually either load the page after about 3 minutes of doing nothing, or come back with a DNS_PROBE_NO_INTERNET message.

I've tried different browsers and it is exactly the same on Firefox, and (shudder) IE/Edge.
I have Windows 10 Pro 64bit, connect via ethernet cable, and the network adaptor has the latest drivers installed and is showing up as working fine in device manager.

I've found some articles online about this error and have so far tried the following:
    - Restarting modem (this causes it to work for about 10 minutes, then it goes back to "Resolving host" issue
    - Changing DNS server options and pointing it to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 - no difference
    - Opening command prompt and ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /flushdns and then ipconfig /renew - no difference
    - cmd prompt and netsh winsock reset - no difference
    - removing the option for IPv6 - no difference

Don't know if it is of any significance but the computer seems to have problems with identifying the network too. Sometimes it will say "Unidentified Network" and other times it will call it by the SSID name we have for the network.

Getting really frustrated regarding this now so ANY help to get this computer working normally again would be really welcome!!

Is your W10 an upgrade from 7 or 8.1?
Has this problem developed recently but previously was OK?

I ask because I had similar issues with a couple of upgraded systems and ended up doing a clean install, NOT a Reset. They are both good now.

This problem has started happening in the last 2 weeks. I previously upgraded from Windows 7 and Windows 10 has been absolutely fine up until this point, and then this problem appeared almost overnight. Tried going back to a previous restore point thinking it might have been a software update but the problem still existed after this point.

I then downloaded the latest ISO from the Microsoft site and burnt it to DVD so that I could do a completely clean install. It worked for a day or so, and then I am back to exactly the same situation I was in before - resolving host issues.

As you have a network then you have other computers/devices. Any issues with any of those? I'm wondering whether the router is the cause. At least reset it.

No issues with any other devices, just the main desktop PC.
We have another PC connected via ethernet and no issues with that, and several wireless devices (phones, tablets etc) and again, no issue with those.
I've tried resetting the router numerous times and this solves it for a few minutes but then the issue keeps coming back.
When the "resolving host" issue is present I can't access the main router on 192.168.1.1 - didn't know if that was obvious with this error but thought I'd add that seeing as I didn't mention it above.

I'd try the cable in a different port on the router, one not having any problem atm. Or trying it with a wfi connection.

Have tried it with a wifi connection and this works fine - albeit slowly (ethernet cable gives 75mb download, wifi gives 15mb max) - will try swapping the ports over tonight when I get in from work.

Sounds promising. Good luck with it.

    Other things to try:
    1. Swap the ethernet cable you are using. Yes, cables do go bad.
    2. Perhaps the ethernet card/port on the computer is going out. There are USB to ethernet adapters if the chip on the board isn't working correctly.

Thank you. Surprisingly this seems to have done the trick for now.
Moved the cable into a new port on the back of the router and pages are loading faster than ever.
Will keep an eye on it going forward.

Wish all the problems were as straightforward.

Just as an update to this in case anyone else has a similar issue.
Eventually the problem returned even after I had swapped the ethernet cable to a different port so I contacted the ISP (TalkTalk - UK) who sent out a different modem recorded next day delivery.
Have tried it today and everything seems to be working again as normal.
