Wow, spent an hour just trying to find out how to post!! Hope this does it...I'm getting a message on start up that Resource dll is missing and to please replace it..When I look for downloads I find that there are many dlls. Does anyone know how I can find out which one is missing? Many, many thanks! (<!-- SNIP -->)

Can you be more specific, does the dialog that pops up saying you have a missing DLL have a title ? Also if you could post the EXACT error message that would be great.

What operating system are you running?

Hi Matt....seconds after my desktop appears, a little square box headed ERROR comes up...it says Mcafee Virus Scan. You can X that box out, then a larger rectangular box comes up and says Resource DLL Missing. Please reinstall...... I have no idea which DLL is missing. It's driving me crazy! If you can give any info, I'd sure appreciate it!! I'm working with Windows XP home.

You might have a virus (sdbot virus?) that targets the disabling of anti-virus program.

You could try running Stinger that might detect the possibility of the virus.
It's likely you will have to reinstall McAfee.

If MA's solution doesn't work you might have a read of this article on McAfees site.

Whilst the sdbot worm MAY cause this behaviour I haven't not seen any mention of it doing this except one forum post on another forum which also reccomends stinger. Stinger supports removal for a limited amount of viruses and whilst sdbot is among the 50 or so listed I doubt it supports the several thousand different variants.

Matt, I think you're right. I believe there was a deletion of some .dlls when my grandson was attempting to do a cleanup. I went to the website you recommended http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-.../download.html but when I downloaded, a window came up saying Windows couldn't open the file. I tried various other ways, Internet Explorer, etc., but nothing seemed to work. I believe we're on the right track, but no cigar. Any suggestions how I might succeed in downloading the file. Thanks no matter what!!
