I'm looking to see if anyone would know of a good resource for studying networking (books, websites, etc.) I've been working for a small company for a number of years doing basic IT support for homes and small offices, but I'm looking to expand my knowledge of networking in general since I'm pretty much limited to what I'm exposed to at work. Also, there have been a few rare occasions when I've been confronted with equipment like a managed switch, and I just didn't know what to do with it without having to spend a lot of time looking online just to figure out how to set up the basic configuration for the switch. I went to the CompTIA site and viewed a few of their sample test questions for Network+ and I was unfamiliar with a few of the terms and networking concepts they referred to so I know that I've still got quite a bit to learn. Any input would be appreciated. I am looking to grow and move forward with my career, but I know that will not be possible without expanding my knowledge in networking.

    Current Experience with Networking:
Right now, I have experience with setting up home/small business grade routers(hard wired and wireless) with basic IP schemes and some work connecting offices with point to point VPNs. I have ran network cable(Cat5e and Cat6) and can install RJ-45 ends on the cable. Also, I've installed patch panels as well. I've also installed wireless access points as well with very basic wireless setups. Most involved setting static ip addresses on the access points and configuring WEP or WPA security.

I'm looking to expand my knowledge beyond the experience I have listed above. Again, any input that is given will be greatly appreciated.

Is there something here to help you?

Also, MG is a very strong source. You might ask where to post questions that are not real problems, you may be directed to the Lounge.

Thanks for the info. I checked the link you sent and it looks like a good starting point. I'll also keep the lounge in mind in the future for questions like these.
