    I connected a USB drive to one of the rear USB receptacles on the back of my computer. When I want to stop the USB drive's motor I use the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" to "disconnect" it.

    Is there a way I can restart the USB drive without restarting the computer, or without having to reach around to the back of the computer, disconnect the USB plug, and plug it in again?

    Thank you for your reply. I clicked the links and read the info. A lot of the apps mention look like they'll work for earlier systems (Version 8, 7, 6, etc.) but haven't been updated for a few years.

    I'll just keep disconnecting the USB drive and reconnecting it when I need it rather than futz with apps that may or may not do what I want, that cost $, and that need to be reinstalled should I ever have to (God forbid) reinstall Windows.

    The very first link is specifically Win10 and using Device Manager, are you running a newer OS than that? Device Manager is not an add-on, it is part of Windows. Whatever.

    @foogoo -
    I went thru the first link you posted and tried the procedure. Had a couple of differences from what you posted, but in the end the process worked. Seems a little round-about but I think I can get used to it. Made a PDF out of the pertinent information. Thanks again for posting the link.

    If you dig in that info there was a Microsoft tool call devcon.exe, you could write a script (batch file) and make a shortcut, much easier.
