   I keep getting a 'restart windows message for the configuration to take effect message ?
   
   I have no idea what this is as I haven't updated anything,

   Hi
   
   What Windows version and Service Pack are you using?
   
   Does this loop around and you cannot get out of it?
   
   Can you boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot and choose Safe Mode with Networking as that will give you internet) and do you get the same message?
   
   
   As for virus, very possible.
