restore associations !!!

I like to knows how to restore associations with th right program (Extension).

Example :when i double click on .MPG winamp start i want
windowmedia to start.

I have try hold the left shift button down and right click on the file .. choose open with .. and check the box on the bottom left that says to associate files of this type with the selected program. then hit ok or apply etc.

But it's not working.

Using win98SE.

 

Delete the old associations then all will ask for program until you tell it which one to use......

WE/Tools/Options/Files i think in 98...

if what MP said doesnt fix all your problems, do this:

open any folder on your computer. since you are using 98, go to View>Folder Options. once in there, go to File types. select the extention you wish to change, and change the "opens with" in the space below. that wil prompt you to locate the desired program you want to open those file types. (ex. change .mpg and .mpeg to WMP instead of Winamp)

that will help you if you even need to change any file type again

 

winfile.exe in the run box I think if I remember will bring up the old file manager....windows explorer now

Found it i have uninstall winamp after that use regvac 2.0
found 30 bad entries.

Reboot,reinstall winamp with out the video library.I win!!!

WINAMP has an option to ensure the file types are mapped for it use on default - see System/Media options in WINAMP and make sure the various protect WINAMP associations are checked off. You can also change the preferred media here as well.

There are similar options in a number of media players and they all fight each other. Have a look for similar options in the Windows Media player.

 

In windows 3.0 - 98 it was called File Manager.
I believe 98SE stopped using it (but it is still in there) and started to use windows explorer. File manager can not do long file names more dos based.

So in olded systems if you are not able to get to windows explorer (in Accessories) (not internet ex[plorer).
You can click Start....then run.....type winfile.exe hit enter.
And it will show you all your drives, folder and files.
