Restore Points & Registry Cleanup Tools...

I have EasyCleaner on my pc for cleaning up the registry. Before I do use it, I would like to know if system restore[most current restore point] is able to change any damage done by cleaning up invalid entries and other things in the registry? I not a techie and I don't want to do something I may not be able to reverse. Secondly, these registry cleanup utilities promise to backup the registry before deleting[if there is something to delete] so you will be able to restore to a previous position. Does this really work? Thanks.

EasyCleaner's backup system works fine, you have to set it up the first time, after that it's automatic. Just click the "undo" button, the program will walk you through the setup process. Yes, System Restore can undo changes to the registry. Neither will help if you mess things up so badly that WinXP won't boot up. To be totally safe, download ERUNT. Hi- I am joining this thread with a related issue and problem-
I am trying restore after a meltdown-I hope no one minds my asking this question here.

I have just downloaded a new graphics board driver following a "free scan"
[i know-i know] for a new 128k nvidia geforce xx board-agp.

the browser based version scanner and scan came from pc mag, paid 29.00 for it, etc.
I have win xp,2, all current malware-etc.
Following the download of the xx.exe, and install and restart the resolution came on at 640x640- with all default PnP devices.

So I smartly went to dv manager and tried to roll back and AH Ha no back up.
So I uninstalled the graphics driver and tried to do a reinstall from the disk but the new installed driver now overrides-
so i went to sys restore-restored, and now have lost all restore points.
so i reinstalled the ATI all in one-etc, and still can not get the proper files to load- could be a corrupt user profile[?]
NOW- this box works fine in Safe mode but will not boot at all
I have done all the damage I can think of- any way out of this mess??

 

Reopening a 2 year old thread is not the best way to get help, you'd have been much better off to start a new topic. I have no idea how you fix this, short of doing a reformat; but maybe someone more knowledgeable will have a less-drastic solution.

 

quite right- after trying for 2 days just to reinstall hrdware from within safe mode I was glad to just see the internet at all. This is the perfect time time for that clean install I have been putting off.

You know your machine has slowed when safe mode is fun and quick.
