I am sorry to be unclear but this happened so fast. I was transferring data from one pc to another and I must have mistakenly hit a button. I was asked to restore to previous version or not and now the folders in one pc look different than the other. I have tried to fix this by researching but when I click to restore a folder it says it does not exist.
If someone could explain what may have happened, I may be able to prevent and correct this error.

    Hi Peter

What Windows versions are these two PCs (likely Win7) and what method of transfer of files where you using?

What PC is the issue happening on the Original files PC or the one with the transfered data?

If the original PC then it this messaage about previous version popped up when you where copying folders then right click that/those folder and choose Properties > Previosu Versions tab and look in the list for the last entry thats not on the day you transferred the files then double click to open up and copy and paste the folders to your desktop and see if the files are the ones you wanted.

I just wonder, without actually seeing what went on that by accident you restored a folder to an older version of itself, and info on Previous Versions HERE in case it jogs a memory of what happened.

    I cannot recall.
Both pcs are almost identical. I plugged the flashdrive in and am blank about what occured except to say must have accidentally hit a wrong button and now most of the files in the folder are wordpad. Some are word which I have in the flash drives and in the desktop. This is what I want for all the files.
I have full word in the sending pc but only the starter in the receiver which only appears if you 'search' for it.
How do I change the wordpad to at least .rtf i not revert to the word in the flash drives and the desktop.
When I insert the flashdrives in the desktop they are .doc but when I view them in the lap the ppear to be wordpad.
There is a "button" in the laptop which needs resetting as all is ok in the desktop and both flashdrives.
To my dismay, my imaging attempts are not going all that well either.

    >>Microsoft Office Client Virtualizer: I hit this twice and all the files in the folder automatically reverted back to Word as they were. It was a miraculous lucky hit after the way things were going. I hope I have hit the reset and will be able to move ahead.

Looks like you are back to normal now Peter?

At times a mishit can cause all sorts of trouble I and always accidental while typing hitting the mouse buttons and its got 6 of them and all do different functions.

But if you are ever in the position of a file type not being what you want it to be, then right click the file and choose Open With, then choose from the list of the app is listed or pick Choose Default Program, then either pick from the list or browse for the application you need in Program Files and once found tick the "always use selected program to open this kind of file" and apply, this sets the defaul opening application to the one you want.

or to goto the file type level in Windows Vista or Win7 type types into the start search box and the Set Associations box will appear, this will list all the file types and you can change the file type of files, not really 100% advisable unless you knwo file type and the apps that open them ok.

So for example an taking .rtf files I can set it to Word or Notepad quickly in the below image, but I could also click browse and choose a completly different application to open these files IF I knoew it was compatible, say Open Office for instance, then once set those .rtf files will always until changed to a new application would always open with Open Office.

Much more than I bargained for and a greater appreciation for those who have mastered this complexity.
I hope I am stabile at this point.
Btw, AMD has responded to my query about the video card and driver issue to which Dell turned a deaf ear. I returned to them, them BelArc advisor and another dx tool.
I will pass on to you the results of their findings and determination, if any.
    Thank you
