I have an HP zv6130us/Windows XP in which I had to replace the hard drive.

I loaded everything using the set up discs that originally came with the laptop. I performed all Windows updates and downloaded some updated drivers at the HP website.

Everything is fine except I do not have the on screen display for volume control (green bars running vertically at the bottom of the screen)

I had this problem when the machine was new and HP provided me with a link to download a patch.

I called HP this morning and they now want $59 to provide me with an answer because the machine is out of warranty. I understand that, I was just looking for an answer, not for them to fix the machine.

    Anyone know of a resolution?

Is this volume display activated by pressing keys?

Yes, correct. There are two button (increase/decrease) dead center on the front of the laptop (photo attached).

Having owned this machine for 6 yrs? I think I have checked every option I could think of.

As I previously stated, when new, I contacted HP and they provided me with a link on their website to install a patch. I searched that today and came up empty.

    Hi

Knowing as having a few HP laptops in my time, I wonder if this is the HP Quick Launch Buttons driver/app you need and its HERE

As you likely have done a re-install, please do tell us of any devices in Device Manage that have Yellow ! Marks by them?

All Drivers for your model HP are HERE

    1) There are no yellow marks in Device Manager.

    2) I downloaded the driver via the link you provided. The quick launch buttons icon is no longer in Control Panel, nor is it in Program list.

    3) I went back to the HP website, allowed them to detect my machine, and downloaded sp38266.exe Version 6.30 J Quick Launch button driver

    4) rebooted

    5) same result, cannot find the quick launch button icon

    6) The program is listed in Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs

    confused!
