I created a bootable recovery image on a WD passport using Dell Backup/Recovery. Windows 7 64bit. I boot to the usb drive X:\ when attempting to restore the image it does not find it and wants to restore from D:\Factory Default recovery. When I use Dell Backup/Recovery it never shows correct image or can't find it. I used 7zip to extract the image and it appears to look OK. I'm looking for some help to get Recovery to find the correct image and restore it Thanks for your Help!

Hi, bfm. Welcome to Major Geeks. :)

Your backup image is in E:\DellBackups. Browse to it when using Restore.

The drive shows to be x:\ when I boot it (USB Device) attempting to run windows recovery. from a dos prompt it is X:\. I am never able to browse to the backup image when attempting to recovery

Why are you running a DOS prompt? Is there no graphical means of doing the restoration like you would get if you used EaseUS Todo Backup, Macrium Reflect or AOMEI Backupper?

From what I saw in your screenshots and the log file, the image is over a year old. Have you done any more recent backups?

    bfm...

Apologies...I was going to post but I see that x was the drive letter for your usb drive. I have seen this used for factory restore partitions.

Does look like there are old restore images on E, though...

Sorry I will try to clarify. I took the screen shots with the drive connected to another computer. the screen shot were to help show the file structure of the USB bootable drive I created using Dell backup/recovery with the Image I want to restore (Dell Backup\Backup.wim). The image is over a year old because when I was done loading all of my software and before I started using it on a daily basis I wanted to create and clean backup image to go back to in case of a major failure of some sort. The DOS prompt thing is when I booted to the drive and was unable to find and restore from Backup.wim . In the recovery tool dialog window it gave several options of different tools available. I used the DOS prompt option to confirm that I was able to see the Dell Backup DIR where my Backup.wim file resides. My question is. Is there a way to move or modify things so windows recovery will see this image so I can restore it instread of using the Factory delfault image on D:\ which is I assume the recovery partition. Thanks Again for all your help

I've never had or used a Dell but am well used to backup and recover scenarios. However, going on mdonah's advice that the backup will be in E:\DellBackups, and seeing as how the restore function can't see it where it is at present, why not try copying it to E:\DellBackups?

It does reside in E:\DellBackup now when I boot to the usb drive it does not see it as a recovery image. I don't know how I can navigate to it or what to do so it can find it. Help!

In post #6 you state there are several "options" available. What are those options please?
