When I reboot my router I can't surf or connect to the internet straight after. Rebooting my pc fixes it as does just waiting a while (in XP - though this doesn't seem to help on my w2000 machine).

What is it that changes, that stops the internet connecting after the router reboots, and is there a quicker way of dealing with it than the above?

In XP, right click the connection icon in your taskbar and repair. Don't know about W2000.
When the router reboots, it has to assign IP addresses to your computers again since it controls the connection.

As said above during reboot the computers loose their IP and it take them time to realize that it happened.

You can use ipconfig (on both WinXP and Win 2000) to release and renew the TCP/IP stack to speed up the process of reassigning an IP.

This page was written for another pupose but it describe an easy way to make a setting for release renew of TCP/IP, http://www.ezlan.net/iprel.html
