A follow up to my post "Should I get a headstone?'

Ok, I got another mb and am trying to breathe new life back into this POS. I got it all back together but I don't hear any post.

I tore it all back apart, after checking all the connections, (they were good.)

With just the mb, CPU & its fan, nothing else, I still have no post. No memory, no GPU installed. I have my backup PSU hooked up with a cable plugged into the CPU jack on the mb and the 24 wire plug.

Jump the switch pins and the fans spin, the LEDs are all lit, but no post of any kind.

Did my mb take out the CPU when it went tango uniform?

Well, understand you will not "hear" a POST unless there is a speaker. While essentially all motherboards "support" a system speaker, many do not include one. If yours does not have an integrated speaker, or one attached to the applicable motherboard header, you will need to add a System Speaker (note that price is for 30 speakers!).

You are assuming it was not the CPU all along.

The MB has a speaker onboard. Before I replaced the MB, nothing happened when I tried to fire it up. (Check out my other post.) With the replacement MB, everything spins up but nothing after. I removed the MB and stripped it down to just CPU, its fan and PSU (with cable to power CPU and one to the motherboard 24 pin).

Upon jumping the switch pins, the CPU fan spins, but then no post...nothing. It should be screaming about no RAM or GPU, but it's silent. I know the speaker worked on the old board, as I heard it whenever I had to restart.

Well, then it sure is possible the CPU got zapped or otherwise damaged during the swap out.

Are you 100% sure this second motherboard was good before swapping it in?

Sadly, because there is no way for most users to test and verify whether or not a motherboard, or a CPU is good or bad, it is not uncommon for one to zap the other without knowing which did what first. :( Such conclusive troubleshooting can only be done at the original factories where they have dedicated and proprietary mock-up test rigs for that purpose.

This is why some shops have extra CPUs they are willing (though reluctantly) to sacrifice to see if a motherboard is good or bad.

I'm not thinking the CPU got damaged during the swap. I was extremely careful to keep grounded. As for the MB, nobody can be 100% sure of anything, except dying. :) But I did not see any leds lighting on the old board and I do on the replacement. Also, like I said, nothing happened when I tried to power on the old board. This one at least spins the fans.

Sorry I don't have more suggestions to offer.

Thanks for taking the time. :)

With no GPU (or other video) and no speaker, you won't know. You also need a MINIMUM amount of memory installed to even see (or hear) POST Messages.
