"Compared with internet averages, its audience tends to be male; it also appeals more to low-income, childless users browsing from home who are not college graduates."

Ok, what woman wrote this? :major

Hehehe, so what are 7 MS MVP's doing here then eh?:-D I will agree with the male part of it as most tech sites are exactly the same, nothing new there. It's also not a site that's designed to be just for professionals that are in the industry discussing their bits and bytes ad nauseum. We're just regular folks so screw you Alexa.:p:-D

Well, they're just reporting based on the data and statistics that they have, Or DON'T have.
The picture presented is based as much on what is Not included as on what Is included.
    They're not necessarily passing judgment.

Have to admit though, I fit the profile:
single middle-aged male, no children, two years college and two years technical training and $2 in the bank. :-D

So who are the people that Don't come to major geeks?
    • well, when my computer locks up, I just unplug the damn thing
    • a browser? what's that?
      I use America Online
    • my computer runs slower with the firewall and antivirus, so I turned them off
    • those Microsoft update popups are SO Anoying!!
      I just ignore it
    • I didn't want that program on my computer anymore, so I just erased the files
    • I deleted a whole bunch of stuff, but my hard drive doesn't show any more free space
    • I download all my software from Softpedia and CNET.
They're really great and they have EVERYTHING.
    • I got these Great screen savers from XXXScreenSavers, but my computer has been acting funny lately.
    • I got a virus on my computer, so I took it to ComputerFixIt and they cleaned it for $150.
Lost all of my pictures and mp3 downloads, though.
    • The guys at GeekPatrol4U said my computer was slow 'cause it needed more RAM.
So they added 256MB and it only cost $92!!
    • I don't use an antivirus or anything, cause I always use Firefox, so I know I'm safe.
    • There sure is a lot of advertising on the web pages I go to.
I wish there was a way to get rid of that.
    • I keep all of my passwords in My Documents in a folder named My Passwords so I can find them real easy.
    • I don't think my computer has one of those operating system things.
      It just has Windows.

    Happy Motoring

Sorry, I just like that thing. :-D

I agree with Augie in that the main user base is male, but then the internet when it started was male oriented or dominated for years so demographics of Alexa are kinda off a tad as NOW as how the hell do they really know the incomes of users on the internet unless they or we as users ask or have been asked the question of what income do we have? and the user base as women do make up a HUGE proportion of internet users these days and many are expert techies also.

I'd wager that the general user base of Majorgeeks is more in the middle income bracket, but then I'd also say what does that actually mean in real terms as anyone of any ability of income bracket can use the internet and come to a website to ask a computer question, as I personally don't care what you earn or what sex or ethnicity a user has the common goal of a tech forum or site is to help anyone with their PC ills.

I know alot of the user base on MGs are retired folk, women, men, teens etc

Demographics is like the assess in financial analyst circles, they guesstimate stuff, and don't have to suffer the consequences if they are wrong. While I do look in work at demographic data on population clustering analysis vs disease vs income vs diet etc bases and such I don't take the results as gospel, they are averages (rough guess) at best.

But I have to say Majorgeeks has earned its place in the top 5000 sites in the world due to quality of service and that's something we will always hold dear, as in anyone of age, ethnicity, knowledge can post here and get a real answer and not ridiculed for a simple question asked, but those that do not conform to a good standard are removed.
