Hi, am desperate for advice on the following:

Had computer 6 weeks only (!) and have many issues. Norton detects bloodhound w.32, I have browser hijacking going on, something is making my printer uninstall and I have ads like crazy.

I have used several so-called spy-blaster programs: Spykiller 2005, Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot search and destroy, Norton Antivirus 2004 and Norton personal firewall. Running each program results in lots of "catches" but they are right there again when I next turn computer on !

I cannot update from Semantic (keep losing browser). I personally think Norton is stupid and causes more troubles than its worth, but haven't got a clue what to do. My old other computer only had one spy-blaster program and still runs fine! (why did I ever upgrade?)

My computer is a Compaq Presario SR1128AN (if that helps), Windows XP Home,. Intel Celeron D processor 325, 90mn, 2.53GHz, 256K
    l2 cache, 533Mhz FSB, mPGA478,
    Memory: 256 MB PC2700 DDR
Hard drive: 40 GB 5400 RPM
    CD-RW Drive (48x32x48)
    modem: 56K ITU v.90

I would be so grateful if anyone could help me. Please spell it out slowly me! Thanks.

Iv just googled your worm and turns out its a mailing virus so i dont think its responsible for the ads.It mails itself to addresses in your address book and as far as i can tell the worm can be removed if you locate and delete the file that its in.As far as i know there is no surefire way to delete all ad/spyware but adware and spybot are good in my experience. The best way to avoid the stuff is to avoid the word free especially pretty ladies LOL.You could also try sytem restore to restore to a previously good setup or at the most drastic use the three Rs repartition reformat reinstall windows but this probably isnt necessary.

It's a rare case that a format and reinstall is required! That is not to say that with some infections if may be faster than fixing the problem. But that assumes you do not have much data on the computer requiring backup and that you do not have too many applications to reinstall, re-update and reconfigure.

First, please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal
If you already have any of the programs linked in the tutorial please double check your version to make sure you have the latest one and that you have any/all updates for the programs.

NOTE: In order to resolve the issues you are having it is very important that you at least try to perform all the steps as outlined. If you have any difficulty please post back letting us know what steps you have completed, what you found while doing the scans if anything and details about any problems you have encountered in completing the steps. The more details you can provide the better.

After doing ALL of the above if you still have a problem:

Make sure you have HijackThis 1.99 and follow the guidelines on where to install it and how to post a log as an attachment. This is all covered in the sticky thread NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Now post a HijackThis log as an attachment to your message (Do not post the log inline). All running programs should be closed, including your web browser, e-mail. Close before running Hijack This!

To repeat: Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder, for example C:\Program Files\HJT
