Hello, Recently I noticed that every several right clicks on my mouse while on the internet, my email (AT&T) home page automatically opens in a new window. Sometimes it is 2-3 clicks before it opens, sometimes it may be 10-20 clicks before my email home page opens. Is this some sort of virus?

The above is one of several annoying things my computer is doing. I am running Windows XP on a PC. I have run SpyBot S&D and Symantec Anti-Virus (v 10.1), both with recent updates with no detectable malware.

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Highly unlikely. You can run our cleaning procedure (see the sticky threads) if you want to really check for malware but I doubt this is related to malware.

When you say right clicks.... are these rapid succession right clicks or are there relatively long durations between each click?

    Thanks for the response Chaslang!

More specifically comcerning right the click events, when I do a search on Google or I am in Ebay, etc. and I right click (single click) on an object to then open in a new window, in addition to the object opening in a new window, my email home page opens at the same time. Actually, the email web page opens first, immediately followed by the object page. When the event happens, seems to be stochastic in nature. There appears to be no correlation as to what triggers the event. It is most annoying when it happens every few right clicks (to open objects in a new window) since I am constantly closing my email home page window.

FYI - After I left the original post, I read your suggestions for basic computer maintenance in other posts and have begun to go through the procedures on my computer. Thanks for providing that post!

Sorry about spelling and grammer. My daughter came into the room and I sent the post before checking it. The first line "More specifically comcerning right the click events" should read "More specifically, concerning the right click events..."

If you are running the READ & RUN ME FIRST cleaning procedures, just attach the requested logs when you finish but I still believe it is unlikely (not impossible) that your problem is malware related.
