Rip me Quicktime!!!

Getting slightly stressed and need help,
I am trying to complete the simple task of ripping files from my sony handycam camcorder (or from the disc it burnt to...) and making a short clip in the quicktime movie format. Sound simple doesn't it? well i now have about 30 programs claiming to do it but for whatever reasons, cannot. Therefore i call upon majorgeeks to end my pain. obviously i could rip the whole disk to a quicktime file and edit it somehow???

Anyway please help before i destroy my laptop!
