ripping video question

anyone ever mess around with one of those vhs to dvd player/recorders.? my pc doesn't recognize the dvd for me to rip it to the pc is there a program that will.? it's a stand alone unit, magnavox, that you hook up to your tv and you can dub the vhs to dvd. is it a special format or something.? i got it to save old home movies and now i'd like to rip those and encode them for google video or youtube, whatever, and send links to my family in italy that we have never met. thanks any help is appreciated.

 

Sounds like you have copied your VHS tape to a DVD using the Magnavox and now want to copy the DVD to your computers hard drive. Try DVD Fab Decrypter to copy DVD's to the hard drive.

If the video doesn't fit on a single layer DVD you can use DVD Shrink to avoid the break needed when you copy to a dual layer DVD, and aviod the additional cost of the disks.

All of this assumes your PC also has a DVD drive, preferably one that writes as well as reads, although the read only will work fine to copy to the hard drive. Use the DVD+RW disks. I have read that the + format is preferable to the - for video, and when I make mistakes, I can erase the DVD, instead of using it for a coaster.

thanks Bugballou but i have all these apps already and none work i have done a little research and it seems the magnavox records in +VR format and no app i have knows what that format is i can't open the dvd at all but i did read something about TMPGEnc DVD Author being able to rip that format so i'm going to try that but if you or anyone knows anything about +VR please inform me. i have all the nessary hardware i just need an app that will rip to any format my pc will recognize so i can encode it.
