Rome Total War Runtime Error

I have a legally downloaded version of Rome Total War Gold. The application freezes at the same point every time I load a saved game and Windows shows an error message (Runtime Error RomeTW.exe R6025 - pure virtual function call). I have researched the error message and know that it is related to a C++ application and that "this error occurs when (the) application indirectly calls a pure virtual member function in a context where a call to the function is not valid". I have also researched this particular problem with Rome TW and it is rare but there are numerous posts on the subject in various forums. However, there are no solutions.

So far I have:

Reinstalled the game
Updated Microsoft Visual C++
Updated drivers
Tried the Rome TW "historic events" crash fix


In my research I found that this is possibly a corrupt saved file but others with this problem found that it recurred even if they started a new game.


I'm running up to date Vista SP 1, 4 gb or ram, Athlon FX-62 processor, and GForce 8800 GTS video card.

I'm hoping some kind soul here can point me in the right direction.

 

I don't know what exactly is the problem but adding more system memory helps.
As you advance in the game the more it is wasteing resources. I have seen two instances of this.
1. The game simply brakes, desapires from the sceen and the desktop is shown.
2. The game freezes and the "exclamation" sound is heard. If you press CTRL-ESC you will see the message "pure virtual function call".

You can increase the system memory by adding more RAM modules to the moterboard OR you can simply increase the Virtual Memory.
I usualy double the Virtual Memory and the play until next time it crashes.
And don't forget to save the game...
