rontkbr.gen removal help

I was unable to follow the steps in the standard malware removal guide. My son was trying to install a mod for Jedi Academy when we got this virus. Once I looked at it, I noticed there is a lot of unexplained activity on my NIC. I can run antivirus scans and it will find rontkbr.gen but is unable to clean it. When I navigate to the folder it's in, I don't see it. Naturally, I go to view hiden files, however, when I click on tools, my "folder options" selection is gone. So, I type in the folder in the address bar and my laptop immediately restarts. Hmmm. Next, I try going to the command prompt to try and delete the folder that way. Again, immediate restart. I bring up msconfig to see if it's in the startup folder. Another restart. I run hijackthis. Another restart before the log can be created. Same thing with combofix. I've tried trendmicro and symantec avs and no luck. I've tried searching the net for these symptoms, but there's nothing. Same things happen in safe mode. Also, system restore does not work.

Any help would be appreciated.

 

nvm, I found a cure at http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsvistas...hy-can-t-i-bypass-the-uac-prompt.aspx#4622514 but that doesn't look like it'll work for me. I'm just going to reformat. Sorry to waste your time.

We can run a few additional scans and remove this but if would rather reinstall the OS, it's up to you.
