I have followed all the instructions for installing software to protect my computer from malware. However, I recently found out about rootkits, which can be very sophisticated and able to hide itself from detection, even when you have anti-malware software installed. Am I just being paranoid, or is there a way you can find out easily? Right now I have access to two computers, a laptop and a PC, and I have a cross-over cable, just in case that helps. Thanks in advance :)

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

There are quite a few tools to look for root kits. Some are easier to use than others; however, interpreting what the output from the scans is telling you can be quite difficult unless you are an expert. You can find some of these tools list in the below.
