    Hi, wildwolf,

    I recommend Rootkit Revealer

I've used it and it is fairly simple. It is by Sysinternals (good folks). They also have a forum for this program, should you have any problems with it or questions. They have been absorbed by Microsoft, but I think the forum is still active.

I recommend you visit their web page and read the rundown on this program also.

    Good luck!!

Sophos also has a freeby which is simple and works well from a very reputable organisation. Think I got it here a MG else google for it.

DO you actually have a malware issue wildwolf ? You shouldn't really run anti rootkit tools without expert advice as some ADS are legitimate.

If you believe you have an issue you can post in the malware forum.

hi matt... i dont have any malware issues ( I THINK ) i run spybot s&d... ad-aware & windows defender and they usually come up clean or only find 3 to 4 pieces of spyware. i dont have any popups or stuff like that so i think my system is clean. after hearing that rootkits can hide from these scans i was just wondering if i had any of them hiding in my system. if you did have any rootkits what would you find going on? thanks.......

I think if you have rootkits you would most likely not notice anything as this is the purpose of the malicious code to be discreted. Different rootkits will do differing things but generally not to your benefit and or privacy. Be aware if you have Alcohol 120%, Dameaon tools or AnyDVD (possibly other software of this nature) they will store rootkits on your system but this is so you can use this software for it's intended purpose and not have other software identify their presence on your system. Be careful and research any rootkits you find on your system (google) and make sure it is there because of the software you are using.
