The first thing i would do is pull the motherboard battery out for a few minutes with the power cord unplugged, then put it back in and see if it will at least post. Let us know what takes place. ed

Unhook everything, hard drives, cd roms, try to get motherboard to post with nothing hooked up, remove memory, try one stick at a time, let us know. ed

Your power supply may be the issue. It might also be the CPU overheating. Make sure the CPU heat sink and fan are firmly attached to the motherboard. If that's not it then I would try another power supply. If you have changed/installed hardware recently it could be that the motherboard is touching the case and causing the shutdown.

Try putting a bootable cd or dvd in the drive and see if it will boot from it, last resort you can reinstall windows. ed

A friend of mine had the same issue as you which started with the wireless connection going and eventually over a period the same start sympton occured. HP have have BIG probs with this notebook and one of the commenest was a fault in the Nvidia Graphics card which was overheating and causing all sorts of problems. I do hope you have some warranty left on it. Dont want to alarm you but have a read here............
