Router DSL Problem

We are currently using ATT DSL and a Netgear router to access the Internet. One PC is wired to it and two Macbooks use the wireless. Everything has operated correctly for years and then today it switched to bringing up a router configuration screen every time we opened a browser (Firefox, Safari and IE all tried). I made sure it was updated with my ISP username and password. All of the lights on my router and modem appear to be on correctly. I have tried restarting them. Now, even though the "lights" all indicate that I have an internet connection---nothing can get it. The browsers either bring me to an ATT configuration page (that doesn't seem to ever help---it's about mismatching passwords but never seems to complete the process) or a "page cannot be found" message. I'm frustrated and at my technical limit. I am hoping the expertise on here can save me from having to fumble through call centers.
    Thanks!

Switch off your PC then your modem and router unplug everything wait approx 2mins then replug in your modem wait til all lights are steady then replug router wait till all lights are steady then reboot PC this sometimes sorts the problem out !
If not open command promprt as administrator type into it " ipconfig flushdns " without the quotes !
Also try " ipconfig release " ipconfig renew " without the quotes !

Let me know how you get on

A DSL modem uses a user name and password to connect to the ISP's network. These are NOT the user name and password you would ordinarily know or use for anything else. They are unique to your specific connection to the ISP and are generally assigned by the ISP.

I'm not clear about the screen you're getting to in the browser. Early on you said "a router configuration screen every time we opened a browser (Firefox, Safari and IE all tried)." Then later you said "The browsers either bring me to an ATT configuration page (that doesn't seem to ever help---it's about mismatching passwords but never seems to complete the process) or a "page cannot be found" message."

The browser is evidently connecting to something but I'm not sure what. If it's the Netgear router, you would probably need a password to get in before it would identify itself. If it's an AT&T site asking for a password, your modem may have been inadvertently reset, clearing the user name and password, requiring it to be setup again which will probably require calling AT&T or perhaps your account has been suspended for some reason.

A better description of exactly what shows up in the browser would be very helpful.

You can reset a netgear router with a pen or something like that at the back next to the aerial there's a little hole, push the pen into the little hole and hold it for about 20 seconds and there you go it's reset to factory settings, and i think this applies to most routers !
