Router loses wireless connectivity when security engaged

My Netgear WPN824v2 began acting up after an operating system reinstall. It works fine without any security, but keeps dropping the connection when I engage WEP or WPA. The wired Ethernet connection always works.

The network consists of:
- Main desktop, wired connection, works fine.
- Media center computer, wireless connection, drops connection with security.
- Nintendo Wii, wireless connection, drops connection with security.
- iPhone, wireless connection, drops connection with security.
- Tivo Series 3, wireless connection, does NOT drop connection.

The trouble began after reinstalling Windows XP SP3 on my main desktop. The only change I made was dropping AVG and Spybot S&D in favor of McAfee security suite.

The network is always visible, just can't connect without power-cycling the router. When I try to have Windows repair the connection, it says Windows cannot get an IP address.

I have tried a hard reset of the router, and the one-minute reset while disconnecting power for 20 seconds.

Any help would be appreciated before I drop kick this thing out a window. :banghead

you said that the problem happened after an OS reinstall, did you check to see if you had the latest network driver installed?

 

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you talking about the driver for the Ethernet adapter?

 

oh, I am truly sorry. i should have read your post again. some of your devices are working fine, while others keep dropping connection. Can you go to manufacturers site for your router and see if the is a firmware upgrade?
