Router Set up

Running WN XP and hooked up a NETGEAR router, I want it for a lap top
that runs Windows Vista the promblem is that when I start my lap top on wireles I get the following message,
The settings saved on this computer do not match the requirments of hte network, I'm stuck on how to change the settings on my laptop.
Any ideas any one.

Have you accessed your router admin panel to see whether WEP Encryption is enabled? If so, you should see a "Key" code. That same code and encryption setting (64Bit or 128Bit, Key Type of HEX or ASCII) needs to be setup in laptop's settings for wireless connectivity.

Also, your router may have security set on WPA instead of WEP. Again, you need to get these settings synchronized in your router and laptop.

If you go to Windows Control Panel and open Wireless Network Setup Wizard and correctly weave your way through it, you should get this working.

Net work name
net work key, etc.
I just can't seem to get to the right place in my laptop to enter all that.

Go to Control Panel\Network and Sharing Center. I believe you'll need to either select "Set up a connection or network" or "Manage wireless networks", depending on the current status of your laptop. Navigate through screens and try to find a Security screen where you'll be able to enter the network security key.
