Router unreliable.

Hi All,

Am running a home network. I use a netgear wifi router. Some computers are hardwired in but one is wifi. The distance the wifi signal has to travel is only 5 metres (though this includes through a hollow core door.) Untill recently this was a very reliable connection. But now the wifi signal deteriorates (unpredicatbly) and I have to reboot the router to restore signal strength. The hardwired connections remain constant.

Is my router (or at least the wifi part ) on its way to heaven?

It is possible the radio is going bad I suppose. One thing to check is if you have a cordless phone that's 2.4Mhz. That is the same frequency as the wireless and mya be interfering.

Thanks for the suggestion but the cordless phone is a different frequency altogether. Besides the phones haven't changed since I set up this rig 18months ago and everything was fine til recently.

Thanks a lot. This did give me more information. Could it be a second wi fi router I have installed causing interference? I have plugged it into my router (the one giving me trouble) and using it as an access point in another part of the house... however the signal from this second router does overlap where my main wifi router_> connection is working.

Well yeah! You didnt say you had another wireless router installed. That could be it.
