Bought a new Dell for work (XP multi-media). they did not include any program disc - which I cannot believe, I mean this is Dell! Anyway, preloaded is Roxio Creator, Record Now suite (version 2 build 4 best I can tell) and DLA (version 5?).

I cannot get the DLA to work. I tried to format a disc (both full and quick) and it says it is good to go. then I drag a file to the drive and either the program goes into an endless loop reading the disc or it says the disc is write protected.

Tried formatting on another computer using older software then using it on the new system. Same results. Yet disc does work on other systems. I do not have a firewall or anti-virus software as I the computer is not on line or networked, so there should be no conflicts.

I don't like the new software even if it worked so was thinking of installing Roxio CD creator version 5 which I used on my old computer (XP professional). The problem is when I put the installation CD in the drive a warning comes up saying this version of Roxio is not compatible with this version of XP.

So what can I do to fix this?

Upgrade to a newer version, or search Roxio's site for a patch. Seems that I remember that version 5 has issues with XP as Roxio wrote XP's native burning software program. I believe that Roxio is up to version 7 or 8 now.:)
