Rs232 To Usb Driver Issue

Hi,
I purchased this item,

There was a disc supplied with drivers on apparently but this disc shows its blank.

My question is, Are the drivers etc specific to the item purchased or is there a generic driver ?
I am need to use my item tomorrow but this driver issue is stopping me.

Firstly, you bought the cheapest adapter available. And with no drivers on the disc, you are of to a bad start.
Secondly, you'll also need the drivers for the device you are connecting.

Connect the device to the PC with the adapter cable and see what happens.

 

The item purchased would suit me as i am only going to use this connected item say once in a blue moon,hence paid price.
The item being connected is installed on the notepad fine.

Today i will see what happens,thanks

Hi,
Yesterday i had chance to look at this & the unit that it controls was faulty so this has now been abandoned.
So i now have to go back to using the appliance connected to the Notebook with the usb.
The usb was connected but when i went to use the appliance i see COM5 not available.
Looking in device manager i see no com ports at all.

Would i need to reinstall some kind of driver as maybe the rs232 to usb driver knocked it out ?

Changing the com port is not the problem.
The problem is that com & lpt is not shown
