Rsolution Issues

    Hello Guys,
Yesterday, for reasons unknown, the resolution of my monitor changed. Suddenly the icons appeared large and oversized. And I had to scroll my mouse around to view different areas of my screen. When I would shift my resolution to a higher range(attempting to make the icons smaller) they only became larger and more off enter.

This is also affecting my video game play, as I have to set my in game resolution to a lower setting just to see everything properly on the screen. I am currently set at 1024 X 768, which isn’t the resolution that I normally use.

I have rolled my PC back a few days to before this happened, but that didn’t help. I reinstalled my graphics driver, and this hasn’t helped either. I’ve tried to Google this problem, but the answers that I’ve found don’t quite match my particular situation.

So I’m hoping that you guys can point me in the right direction. I will enclose a dxdiag file with this post. I hope you can shed some light on this strangeness as I am at my wits end.

    Thank You :)

    Hi

    What is your normal resolution?

What make and model is your Monitor and in Device Manager in the Monitor section what driver does it say is installed, the one for the actual named monitor or a Generic Plug n Play one?

Have you installed any new software or drivers before this happened? if so what.

I would be tempted to do a clean install of the Graphics Drivers and follow the below.

    Hello
my normal rez is 1280 x1024
I have an Acer LCD Al1916w A monitor. And when i checked under my drivers section it said that Im using a Generic PnP driver.

I did try to download the ACER driver for my monitor, but it was a non extracting file. And I was unsure where the 3 files that I unziiped went so I decided it would be wiser to let sleeping dogs lie. :)

I didnt install any new software. But I did uninstall several games that my son installed onto my box without permission. ((Flyff, Its downloader, Pando Media Booster, DFO and one other). Im now wondering if one of them took some file that I needed when I deleted.

I will try a clean graphice driver install to see if it helps. Thank you for such a quick response :)

    :( Bad things have happened.
When Iuninstalled the drivers and tried to reboot in safe mode, my pc absolutely refused to boot up. I couldnt even get into my bios screen. No matter what I tried I was simply dead in the water.

At my wits end I decided to give the insdie a dusting. While doing so my cpu an unhinged and i opped it and my cpu fronm its housing while trying to get the darned thing reattached. the cpu is now damaged, and maybe my mobo.

I am currently only via my sons pc to talk to you all in hopes tat i can get it going again>.<

Even though I built both that and this pc, im a long way off from having any idea of where to start as far as determining what can be salvaged from my machine. My motherboard still dispalys a green light, and the fans are working...not sure if my hard drive is ok.

Im hoping someone can point me in the rightt direction. And I suspect that Ill have to take the entire thing apart and try to get it together bit by bit.

    Please...someone help me....

    Greetings, WildRabbit.

    A few quick questions:

What makes you think the CPU is damaged? Is the module cracked in any way? Are any of the pins bent? The possibility exists that the heatsink came loose, but the processor may be ok.

What is the make and model # of your motherboard, processor, RAM, HD, etc.? Give us as much info as you can, and maybe we can get you back up and running.

Some of the pins along the side were bent when the heatsink fan pulled it free.
Motherboard is an ASUS m4a79xtd EVO
Im trying to dig up the other info on the machine, harder since i can never remember the specs.
I will C&P this from the dxdiag I ran prior to murdering my pc. I hope tis helps a little
