'Run as' doesn't work

After a fresh install of XP Pro SP3, I set up another Admin account in addition to the built-in one, installed everything as I wanted it, then changed it to a standard User account to make it more secure. But when I use the 'Run as' thing to open programs, e.g. EASEUS Todo Backup, as Administrator (with s pswd of course), it always gives the message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I've used Run as loads before and never had this problem.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

If Windows permitted standard user accounts to get around the account limitations by allowing them to use 'Run as' it would defeat the entire purpose don't you think?

Umm, well, you have to put in the Admin password when you do it, so only the administrator can run programs as Admin from a User account. So no, I don't see how it does defeat the purpose. And Windows clearly does permit that as I've done it on several other computers.

Yeah, you are right. I installed Macrium and followed your steps in an XP VM and 'Run as' did work in a limited user account, with the right password of course. Macrium did not appear though in the limited user's start menu and I had to navigate to it in Program Files. I haven't tried Todo.

This doesn't help explain why it isn't working for you, but at least it proves it should work ;)
