Hi there, im trying to fix my uncles computer but im starting to think its a lost cause! apparently he clicked one of those "you've got a virus, click here to cure" about a week ago... great! well now IE wont open, other microsoft app's wont open, it freezes alot, only way to get on the internet is to go via a folder and type in the direct web address that you want, cant open links from there for some reason, and generally messes up! I'v attached the log files and im pretty sure i followed your instructions right. any help would be great.

    Cheers

It looks like the scans removed all of the malware and rogue programs. What issues are you still having?

IE isn't' working at all (encounters a problem and has to shut down before its even open) but i think its been deleted so just going to install firefox.

There is nothing in the start menu apart from shut down, connect to, printers, set program access, and programs. The log off function seams to have gone and i think microsoft outlook has been deleted also. So should just be a case of re-installing them but how do you get the log off function back?

The botton right corner says virus alert next to the clock and when you go into system properties to set the auto updates it says "everyday at 12:00 VIRUS ALERT!"

It was crashing for 30secs to a min every time you exited a window but that seams to have stopped happening.

thanks for your help and the step by step guide was amazing.

    Cheers

Please run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file.

here it is, now its just the "VIRUS ALERT" problem pretty much, think everything else is sorting itsself out, though this check was run under administrator log in, not his profile becuase that said he couldn't have access to the directory.

I am not seeing anything in you logs. This computer appears to be on a domain, is that true?

What do you mean "not his profile becuase that said he couldn't have access to the directory."

Did you run the SAS and MWB scans under his profile?
