run regedit becomes run regedit.com

I dl a file and run it and apparently it install msconfigs.exe

I deleted the file called msconfigs.exe

Is this file used in WinXP pro. It is store in c:\program file\msconfigs folder

Is the cause of my problem:

I cannot >run>cmd or regedit
but I can >run>cmd.exe or regedt32.exe

The above cmd.exe is OK
but run>cmd (without the extension), got issue, the winxp tried to open file cmd.com same to regedit.com, then the system will freeze.

May I know what is the cause for this problem?

Ummmm.... A quick google search for the file msconfigs.exe indicates that you have infected your computer with a virus of some sort! You are going to get much better and faster help with your problem if you re-post your question in the Spyware Specific forum. Good luck!
