Run XP on Vista

Hi

Quick question what is the name of the program that lets you run
Windows XP within Vista, I've seen it but don't know the name

Is it VM Ware? or is that something different?

 

Ya, VMWare or MS's own VirtualPC. I can't remember off hand but not all versions of Vista support virtual machines. Ultimate and business do for sure, I don't think Premium does.

This may sound really thick so bear with me...

I have a laptop with Vista pre-installed, and I don't want to scrap Vista, but I want to run XP and some XP only compatible programs but as a one off.

So is Virtual PC 2007 still free? and secondly once I have got it and install it on Vista, I have a version of Windows XP so how does that work do I have to install XP inside the virtual PC, or what?

Yes, VPC is free, and another yes as to installing XP.

Hmm, things are getting clearer now. Have you tried running your programs in 'compatibility mode' yet? Many or even most XP apps work well that way.
