I'm running XP Home SP3 with IE7. Set up a new restricted user account today. Have been browsing under administrator, which I found out is not the best thing to do. The new user account "Joy" has files with IE5 extensions: history.ie5 and content.ie5. Ran a search and found that there are several other with .IE5. Is this normal?

My intention is to copy folders from the administrator's account to the comparable restricted user account's folder. Unsure how to handle the history and content files since they are different in administrator than the restricted account. Please advise how to resolve.

Also, anything else I should know about as I copy files from administrator to the restricted account so I don't totally mess things up? Figured once I get everything copied over, I'd work under the restricted account for a while. If all's OK, then I'll delete the duplicate folders/files under the administrator's account. Seems reasonable. Figured I'd check first to see if it really is that simple.

    Hi

Yes those are normal, they have been left in for years, those .IE5 files are also in Windows 7 and IE8, kind of a legacy thing and one that if not broken why fix. To be honest I wouldnt bother with the content and history files, as they just are a recored of your browsing history and your new standard user account will once you start browsing recreate these anyway, plus its always a good thing to purge these history logs at times (I tend to delete history, cookies and temps on each end of a days browsing.. use CCleaner for this)

I would be tempted to copy the contents of folders from the admin account to the same folders on the user account, if the file are coming out of Windows system folders, general user folders you should be fine with, possible you may just need to take ownership of a folder if you loose access to in once copied.

duplicating administrator set up in restricted account

OK, copied all the "documents and settings\[administrator] folders to related folders in restricted account "joy." Didn't duplicate; there are differences. Whatever shortcuts you can give me to save me time in duplicating the setup I have in the administrator account will be greatly appreciated.

First biggie: though I copied the "my documents" folder from administrator to joy\my documents, when I go to access them through start-my documents, they aren't there. what do I need to do to "see" them there.

Second biggie: I started outlook and it configured new, not recognizing any of the outlook activity I have as administrator. I did copy over all the "application data" folders, which included the "outlook" content. What am I missing as a link?

Next, the startup is different; i.e., there are different programs to the right of the quick launch task bar. Is there a file I can copy over to duplicate this? Or better, something I can move from [administrator] to "all users?"

Similarly, there are no quick launch icons to the left of the quick launch task bar. Is there a file I can copy over to the restricted account? Or better, something I can move from [administrator] to "all users?"

Didn't try to access the network, though I suspect it, too, wasn't duplicated. It's one of the quick launches I have. So figure if I can get the quick launches duplicated, perhaps this will be a non-issued. If that won't be the case, is there a quicker way then setting up the network access for "joy?"

In addition, the desktop is different. The shortcuts and desktop folders I copied over aren't there. What link am I missing?

Finally, I run webshots desktop 3.1.1.7317 for wallpaper and screensaver. Is there a file I can copy over? Or better, something I can move from [administrator] to "all users?"

I suspect all of this can be duplicated with enough time. Anything you can share that will minimize the time I need to invest in this and save disk space will be greatly appreciated.
